On Saturday we attended a Spanish wine and tapas event at MeLounge. This place will be lovely to visit on a sunny day as the outside seating space is quite cozy and the view is spectacular. I am unsure if they have inside seating space available on other days but at this event they didn’t which was a little uncomfortable after a while and sitting outside for some people wasn’t as option as it was quite cold.
I was served 6 different Spanish wines at the event, 2 whites, 2 reds 1 rose and one sparking. The event also included Spanish tapas, all for the price of 18 euro if you bought your tickets before hand and 25 euro at the door. We arrived really early because I was concerned that the tickets will be sold out but in Malta it seems, it is not needed to arrive early as the party only properly started around 9:30 anyway but he event started at 6:30. Pre-tickets had to be punched from the venue in advance as just booking by e-mail was not possible.
The wine selection was ok, I enjoyed one white called Four Lines Rueda Verdejo and the sparking wine which unfortunately I did not get the name of. The other wines which were available were just not to my liking. That is wine for you, one man’s love and another man’s vinegar. I suppose I expected more of a variety as I don’t know much about Spanish wine and was hoping to learn a bit more about it. Looking at the image at the bottom of this post which I found on the event page, I must of missed 2 of the wines as these I did not see at the serving table. Also the sparking wine is not included in this picture.
The event also included tapas but I feel it definitely lacked on the tapas front, as there wasn’t really enough food out for the amount of people attending neither was there a good enough selections. You weren’t able to try all of the different tapas as they would place the plates on a table where a group of people were sitting so it just kind of immediately became their plate as people were quite hungry.
Did I think the 25 euro was worth it? For Malta, no. If I wanted to take advantage of their open bar it probably would of been, but as it was a wine and tapas evening I expected wine and tapas, so that is what i was paying for. Will I return to another event at MeLounge? Probably, I think when the weather is nicer and I make sure I eat dinner before I go and get the early bird tickets, then it will be well worth it.
